Counterpoint

2019
Acrylic on canvas
50 X 60 cm

The work is presented as a game of subtly harmonized contrasts, where the chromatic division is both structural and conceptual. In the upper part, the intense terracotta unfolds in all its force, covering the canvas with a vibrant energy, through broad and decisive strokes. This warm and earthy color seems to invoke the solidity of the earth and the expansion of fire, granting the work an air of monumentality and presence.
In the lower part, in soft contrast, a field of light tones extends, suggesting an almost ethereal stillness that exudes calm and luminosity. The whiteness of the lower space is vast, amplifying the feeling of serenity. In the middle of this ethereal void, a small terracotta spot bursts in, like a whisper that connects both worlds, suggesting a symbolic relationship between two poles, intensity and calm. This stroke acts as a visual counterpoint, bringing with it a gentle tension that becomes a small reminder that even in stillness, intention persists.
The two worlds, although clearly delineated by the contrast of colors, are not kept separated by rigid barriers. The integration of a gray tone, applied with subtlety, acts as a bridge that softens the borders between the two universes, uniting the opposites and creating a fluid transition between the warmth of the top and the coolness of the bottom.
The work, thus conceived, is a reflection on the contrasts inherent to existence itself: the intensely vital and the calmly serene, the dense and the ethereal. Each stroke, each stain, each color transition, seems to be orchestrated to convey a message of balance and fluidity.
